GGE Analyzes Data on 2021 Police Activity in Schools

Today the NYPD released the Q1 2021 data on school police interventions. These new numbers show there have now been over 200 police interventions in school buildings since the start of the school year – even as in-person learning continues at just 30% capacity.

Race is a huge predictor of which students have to experience police contact: Black students were nearly 7x more likely to be targeted by police in schools compared to white students.

It doesn’t have to be this way! The New York City Council can fight back against the public funds that goes toward policing young people in schools.
