Building Cultures of Consent and Autonomy

GGE supports comprehensive, age-appropriate, medically accurate, sexual health education, inclusive of education around consent, in every grade, every year, from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Comprehensive sexual health education should teach young people about consent, and lay the foundation for healthy relationships.

Education about consent, bodily autonomy, power, coercion, and control are some of the most important tools to address gender-based violence. At GGE we work to shift culture, and that can happen through the communities we build within schools and the tools that students are equipped with. The implementation of comprehensive sexual health education in schools must include buy-in from educators, advocates, and youth development experts to develop sexual health policies that protect against the harmful messages which reinforce the gender stereotypes and dominance that characterize rape culture.
